Trucking Blogs Every Big Rig Truck Driver Should Be Reading

If you’re a trucker, new or old, you probably have some notion of how important it is to keep your finger on the pulse. News regarding new industry regulations, discussions about which companies are worth working for, and—seriously, listen up, newbies—fireside chats about the do’s, don’t’s and unwritten rules for the road are invaluable.

How do you keep up with the goings-on of the industry? Well, that’s easy enough: It’s 2018, folks! There are a billion and one places on the internet to get the info you need. To that end, here are a few blogs you just can’t miss out on if you’re OTR!

Trailer Talk

Tom Berg isn’t a driver, but he probably knows more about trucking than half of the drivers you’ve met! Tom’s been working as a journalist in the trucking industry for over 35 years, is CDL-licensed, and was once the editor of RoadKing and American Trucker. These days, Tom writes the monthly Trailer Report for HDT, and you’d be a fool not to keep up with it!

Trucker Dump

Much to your relief, surely, Trucker Dump is NOT a website about the obscene state of many roadside pit stops. No, Trucker Dump is a podcast and blog combo written and produced by veteran truck driver Todd McCann, who’s been working in the industry since ’97—and that means his career’s old enough to buy its first beer! How about that?

Word to the wise: Todd’s a corporate man, so if you’re looking for O/O advice, he’s not your guy. That said, he’s an awesome source of info for new drivers since his blog posts and podcasts regularly broach topics that every trucker should know about before they hit the road.

Trucker’s Report

Strictly speaking, Trucker’s Report isn’t a blog! It’s a forum, but it’s a wealth of information for drivers new and old. Whether you’ve been doing it for a decade plus or you’re fresh out of your CDL classes, Trucker’s Report features hundreds of posts that you’ll be glad you read!

Some of Trucker’s Report’s most popular boards are “Discuss Your Favorite Trucking Company,” “Questions From New Drivers,” and “Trucking Industry Regulations.” You’ll also find a whole host of specialized forums for tradesmen working in adjacent truck-driving industries!

Overdrive

First and foremost, Overdrive is a trucking magazine—and one that you’ve surely seen plenty of if you’ve ever set foot inside a truck stop! Fortunately, Overdrive does have its own blog, and it’s an awesome resource for drivers who are looking for coverage on a wide range of topics.

Overdrive’s blog posts span such a large list of topics—from future tech to industry news, and even uplifting stories—that you’re sure to find something worth reading, whatever you’re looking for!

Real Women in Trucking

If you’re a woman, you might enjoy getting your news from a road sister—or you might want to tune in to trucking news that specifically impacts the industry’s female demographics! Whatever the case may be, Real Women in Trucking is an awesome source that caters to an underrepresented group! In addition to news, they provide information regarding CDL training, as well as special events hosted by the organization!

There you have it! Five excellent blogs—or four blogs and a forum, anyway—containing a whole wealth of knowledge for you to draw from! Hopefully, you find what you’re looking for in one of the recommended websites. Stay safe out there!
